URGENT: Restricted Import of Vehicles

We hereby inform you that the import of vehicles imported under the definitive import regime is presently restricted. The reason for such is that authorities have determined that used vehicles imported into national territory must comply with (Official Mexican Standard) NOM-041-SEMARNAT-2006, which establishes the maximum permissible limits of emission of contaminant gases originating in the exhaust of vehicles in circulation. This Official Mexican Standard (Norma Oficial Mexicana or NOM in Spanish) for importing of said vehicles is complied with by submitting the vehicle inspection foreign document (emission control or Smog certificate) from the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.  Presently, no authority from any other state is authorized to issue emission control certificates.

Customs agents (brokers) are in negotiations to determine options for restoring the import of vehicles via Progreso.

These regulations only affect vehicles imported under the definitive import regime (PERMANENT), and do not affect those imported under the temporary import regime with a permit issued by the Banco del Ejercito (the Mexican government authority that issues vehicle permits).
